Around 85,000 students are studying at a total of 27 university-level institutions in Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Every year the region attracts a growing number of new undergraduates to the two big Hamburg universities – amongst the largest in Germany – and Lüneburg, a comparatively young, new-style university, already heaped with honours. But smaller, specialised university-level institutions such as HafenCity university or the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg also underline its quality as an academic location.
The universities are complemented by many internationally renowned research establishments such as the Max Planck institute, DESY in Hamburg of Stade’s CFK-Valley.
With 9,000-plus researchers, they help to prove that the Metropolitan Region stands for innovation and progress.
