Hamburg Metropolitan Region – Growing region
Attracted by high quality of life, the population has grown by 2.3 per cent since 2001 to more than 4.3 million. By 2020 another 170,000 residents are expected.
Since 2006 companies in the Metropolitan Region have generated sales of more than EUR 426 billion. Compared with the previous year, sales rose by an average of 7.3 per cent. Disposable income of private households grew by 2.9 per cent between 2004 and 2005, reaching about EUR 85 billion.
